  • Remember where you are and dress appropriately – swimming costumes and bikinis are totally acceptable, as long as you wear both the top and bottom halves.
  • Regulations for the public beaches seem to be getting more strict. Dogs are banned from the beaches, and so is driving. Officially, other banned beach activities include barbecues, camping without a permit and holding large parties. Contact the Public Parks and Recreation Section (04 336 7633) for clarification.
  • Timings often change during Ramadan, when parks usually open and close later in the day. Both parks have lifeguards on duty – when they raise the red flag, it is unsafe to swim.
