By Bus
The bus service in Dubai is quite extensive and cost effective. The RTA operates over 75 routes operate within Dubai city and 15 inter-emirates buses. These air-conditioned buses are air-conditioned and comfortable. The city boasts of new articulated and sleek double decker buses and also an exclusive service for women commuters. RTA has also installed modern air-conditioned bus shelters all over the city.
There are over half a dozen main bus stations in Dubai - Al Ghubaiba; Al Satwa; Al Qusais; Hor Al Anz; Al Rashidiya; Jebel Ali; Al Sabkha - from where buses leave for various parts of the city. Buses generally operate from around 5 am until just after mid night during week days. Dubai has a unique flat rate on all of its routes. The "Wojhati" or Journey Planner is RTA’s unique electronic system that enables the public transport riders to set the right way to travel through real-time and accurate information to determine the most accessible transport mode according to the rider's location, destination and trip time. The Big Bus
If you wish to focus on sightseeing then you can avail of Dubai’s Big Bus tours. These open top tour buses provide a hop-on and hop-off facility and cover all the major landmarks and attractions in the city and are a fun way to see Dubai! Tickets are vaild for 24 hours. Highlights
Sharjah sees 11% more tourists in H1
The UAE emirate of Sharja recorded an 11% increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2009, according to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA). The majority of tourists (45%) entering Sharjah during the first half were from Europe, while 25% were from the GCC, 14% were from Asian countries, 11% were from other Arab countries, and the remaining 5% came from the Commonwealth, the US, Africa and the Pacific Region. The authority also said the emirate's 107 hotel establishments (41 hotels and 66 hotel apartments) reported a 70% hotel occupancy rate during the period.
