Taxis are the best way to get around Dubai. There are about 7000 taxis operating in Dubai and they are all regulated by the Government. You can be assured of a safe and comfortable journey in any of these taxis. They are all metered and the drivers courteous and well trained. Most can converse in English. Don’t be confused by the various coloured tops of the taxis. The pink coloured tops are meant only for women, children and families while the red top ones are operated by Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) of the RTA, a Government of Dubai organization. The others such as blue, green, yellow, brown or white tops belong to companies that have been franchised by the DTC. All these companies operate under a strict code of conduct and quality standards. So, you can be assured of the services.

Reservation Services
The speed factor and the customers comfort are the most important standards that govern the mission of Dubai Taxi Corporation. The reservation and distribution section's role is to ensure that the public is able to book a taxi easily, and in many different ways.

Direct Reservation Service
Dubai Taxi Corporation provides an around the clock direct booking service for taxis on phone number (+971 4) 2080808. You can expect to be answered promptly and on most occasions the taxi will arrive within "15 minutes", subject to traffic conditions.

Automatic Reservation Service
This service requires the customer only to register his address with the reservation and distribution section at Dubai Taxi Corporation. When the customers wishes to call a taxi he dials (+971 4) 2080808 and the reservation takes place automatically with the option of determining the time when the customer needs the taxi whether immediately or later.

WebTaxi
WebTaxi service is fully integrated with the distribution and reservation section system, therefore to use this service proactively, the customer needs to register into the service using valid credentials (name, address, mobile number ...etc). After receiving the temporary password via SMS, the customer can login, change the temporary password, and make taxi reservation. Visit: http://www.dtc.gov.ae/webtaxi/

Taxi fares
There is a minimum fare of AED 10/- for passengers travelling within Dubai. The starting fare from the airport to any destination in Dubai is AED 20.00. Add an additional AED 20.00 if you are headed or Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman.

Use the Automatic registration system if you are going to be a regular user, as the automated system stores your address

    Sharjah sees 11% more tourists in H1 The UAE emirate of Sharja recorded an 11% increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2009, according to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA). The majority of tourists (45%) entering Sharjah during the first half were from Europe, while 25% were from the GCC, 14% were from Asian countries, 11% were from other Arab countries, and the remaining 5% came from the Commonwealth, the US, Africa and the Pacific Region. The authority also said the emirate's 107 hotel establishments (41 hotels and 66 hotel apartments) reported a 70% hotel occupancy rate during the period.
